Guardianships

Individuals who cannot make decisions on their own may require the court appointment of a guardian. A guardianship proceeding can seek the appointment of a guardian of a person, of property, or both. A guardian of a person has legal authority to care for and make decisions for the person. Legal guardianship is commonly used for incapacitated seniors, developmentally disabled adults, and minors. A guardian of the property is responsible for managing an individual’s assets. Ms. Ryan represents individuals petitioning for the appointment of a guardian, as well as interested parties. She has also participated in the required training for court-appointed attorneys to represent individuals in guardianship proceedings.
